MEREDITH HOOPER'S ACCLAIMED PLAY 'KATHLEEN AND CON' ON R4

Robert Falcon Scott (June 6, 1868 - March 29, 1912) with his wife Kathleen (Edith Agnes Kathleen Bruce, b Bassetlaw, Notts (27 March 1878 – 25 July 1947)
A play based on letters between Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his wife Kathleen is to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday 5th February at 2.15.

Kathleen and Con, by Meredith Hooper, stars Samuel West as Captain Scott and Emilia Fox as his wife, and will be aired in Radio 4's 'Afternoon Drama' slot, from 2.15-3.00.

Read about the BBC Radio Play about the Scott letters: Tuesday 5 Feb , 2.15-3.00

The 45 minute play is based on the powerfully moving letters which Scott and Kathleen wrote to each other over a period of five years.

Poignantly, it is being broadcast in precisely the week - 100 years later - that the news broke upon the world of the deaths of Captain Scott and his four colleagues: Wilson, Bowers, Oates and Evans.

The naturalist, writer and Antarctic specialist Meredith Hooper
Australian-born Meredith Hooper, nominated for a Carnegie Award, lives in London and is an Antarctic expert, lecturer, historian and full-time writer of non-fiction and fiction for children and adults. Her numerous books include the well-loved titles Tom Crean's Rabbit and A for Antarctica.

Details of the BBC Programme on Tuesday 5 Feb at 2.15 p.m.

Catch her on the air this weekend too: Meredith Hooper will be talking about the drama on Radio 4 on Sat 2 Feb, as part of 'Saturday Live' (9.00 - 10.15).

Samuel West recently tweeted on Twitter: 'I'm recording Captain Scott's letters to his wife Kathleen for Radio 4 this afternoon. This weather is PERFECT, d'you hear?' One wag replied, 'You might be some time'. Curiously/ironically/lovably, Sam West's identity on Twitter appears to be 'Exit the Lemming'. (No sign of that yet, remotely.)
