TO BE DISPLAYED AT THE MUSEO NAO VICTORIA, IN PUNTA ARENAS
The idea of constructing a James Caird replica is owed to the energetic impresario Juan Luis Mattassi, who was behind the life size replica of the Nao Victoria, in which Ferdinand Magellan discovered the straits which bear his name to this day.
The building of such a boat is, like that of the Nao Victoria, a reflection of the ancient and honoured history of Punta Arenas as the world's most southerly port. The building of the boat forms a key part of the gradual extension of the Museo Nao Victoria and its contents.
