Committee member Stephen Scott-Fawcett, FRGS FRICS, highlighted in the latest James Caird Society Newsletter (Number 2) his irresistible temptation to purchase Shackletonia.
In 2000 some original wooden skis of Shackleton (from the Endurance expedition's Ocean Camp) were acquired for £3,000.
In 2001 five original ink drawings by Walter How (Able Seaman on Endurance) were acquired for £500. Two of these feature the ships Endurance and Discovery. A picture generously donated fior auction at the Grand Polar Dinner fetched around £300 towards the Antarctic Heritage Trust's work at Cape Royds.
In 2002 three pieces of Nimrod expedition note paper signed by all members of the expedition were acquired for £1,750.
In 2004 the original Bill of Sale of Nimrod in 1911 to a new owner was acquired for £1,750.
